Lanesborough, Massachusetts

2nd 5-year report 2004 (pdf)

1st 5-year report 1999 (pdf)

A site in Lanesborough – just outside of Pittsfield. From EPA document: “The property was used for the disposal of waste oils and solvents from General Electric Company (GE) as early as the 1950s and possibly later. The one and one-half acre disposal area occupies the northern section of what was at the time an approximate 12.5 acre residential lot.”  The site was “remediated” in 1994, but is still pumping toxic water from the ground. The Rose Disposal Pit Superfund Site is located northwest of Balance Rock Road, just south of Balance Rock State Park. PCBs and volitle chemicals have contaminated the groundwater as deep as 80 feet below the surface. On state GIS maps, this area is part of a potential medium-yield aquifer that runs south into Pittsfield.
