Pick up litter along the riverbank or jump right in to pull out tires and refrigerators. Whatever your level of comfort, come help us make a difference.

Next Cleanups 2012: We are currently working on our 2012 cleanup schedule which will include cleanups in both the Housatonic and Hoosic watersheds. See you in the spring!

Please let us know if you would like to help.

BEATwill soon be announcing our 2012 river-cleanup schedule. We are currently planning cleanups in and along the Housatonic River and the Hoosic River.  Please plan on joining us next spring, summer, and fall.

In the past, every one of these events has been hard work, but a lot of fun. There are opportunities for all levels of participation – from making sandwiches and picking up pizza, to picking up trash along the riverbanks, to getting right in and pulling our tires and shopping carts. Everyone is welcome.

Please let us know if you can help out:

Volunteers at May 14 river cleanupOur river cleanup season began with the May 14 cleanup.  Volunteers worked in and along the stretch of the river near Wahconah Street in Pittsfield.  They pulled out mattresses, a chest of drawers, shopping carts, tires, and more.

Canoeists pick up trash in riverFor the June 18 cleanup, we left from Decker Landing in Lenox, canoed both upstream and downstream, and returned to Decker Landing with our collected trash.

Discussing environmental issuesThe July 23 cleanup actually began July 19 when Representative Tom Conroy of Wayland joined us on our scouting trip.  We canoed the area behind Wahconah Park in Pittsfield and planned our strategy for the cleanup.

A bucket and a chair in the river, waiting to be extracted. On July 23, we again tackled the area behind Wahconah Park.  We extracted 2,340 pounds of trash from the Housatonic River.  The video at the top of this page was shot during our July 23 cleanup.
