Konkapot River Restoration Planting Day

October 31, 2025 @ 1:00 pm
Join Trout Unlimited for an afternoon of planting at a unique stream restoration site in New Marlborough. At this site in New Marlborough, Trout Unlimited, with support from many partners, completed a long-awaited project that restores stream habitat and structure to a stream bank that is failing and threatening a town road. A technique called Engineered Log Jams (log and boulder structures that stick out into the stream) was used to deflect the force of water away from the stream bank and provide habitat through root wads and boulders. The entire project used nature-based materials to restore the stream bank. The final touch is to use native plants to secure all the material through roots. On the planting day, volunteers will be planting shrubs and perennials throughout the site, as well as “live staking” willow and dogwood branches. The cut branches can get hammered into the ground and roots will grow from the branch itself. Join for the afternoon or stop in for part of the time. All help is welcomed!
