Butterfly Identification Through Binoculars

June 14, 2025 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Birds are far from the only winged creatures to see at Greylock Glen! The sunny, flower-filled hills of the eastern Glen Meadow Loop provide ideal conditions to watch butterflies — you can even watch them through binoculars as you would a bird.

At this combined workshop and walk geared toward beginners, learn about the major groups of butterflies (and a few day-flying moths) in the region and how you can incorporate butterfly viewing into your next hike or gardening session. Afterwards, go outside and look for butterflies while having a bring-your-own-lunch picnic in the meadow. This program will focus on the hobby of viewing adult butterflies; there will be no catching or handling butterflies. Caterpillar identification or rearing will not be a major focus of this program.

This program will cover less than 0.5 miles of distance and its outdoor component is largely stationary. The trail surface is wide, level or gradually sloping, and gravel-paved.

$20 members, $25 nonmembers
