Intro to Forest Carbon & Carbon Credits
Here in New England, our forests are one of the main ways that carbon is stored in our natural environment. Efforts to increase the storage of forest carbon have gained momentum in recent years as a way to mitigate the release of carbon into the atmosphere. As a landowner or forest steward, the decisions you make influence the carbon your forests sequester and store.
Join Paul Catanzaro, State Extension Forester and Professor at UMass Amherst, and Laura Marx, Climate Solutions Scientist for the Massachusetts chapter of The Nature Conservancy, to shed some more light on the topic of forest carbon. Paul will provide an overview of how and where forest carbon is stored in our woods and opportunities to manage for more carbon storage. From there, Laura will describe the Family Forest Carbon Program and a landowner will describe their experience with it.
