Butterflies and Blooms at Edith Wharton Park

The open meadows of Edith Wharton Park, situated near the wetlands and forests around Laurel Lake and The Mount, make it a great place to look for butterflies and other flower-loving insects. Walk will move slowly along the unsurfaced, grassy loop around the park, scanning the hillsides for butterflies or looking closely at any that land nearby, stopping frequently to look into flowerheads and enjoy the staggering variety of insects that rely on these small spaces.
During the walk, learn the basics of butterfly identification in the Berkshires and what you can do to help butterflies from your own backyard. This program does not involve catching or handling butterflies or other insects. Bring your own binoculars or borrow a loaner pair.
This program will cover up to 0.5 miles of distance. The trail surface is a mowed grass path that is gradually sloping or level. The trail surface could be uneven.
Pre-registration is recommended. If the program is not full, a limited number of walk-ins can be accommodated with cash or check in exact change. Credit card payments are for pre-registrations only.
