Wildlife Connections: Using Trail Cameras to Learn About Our Wildlife Neighbors

Join the Housatonic Valley Association and partners for “Wildlife Connections: Using Trail Cameras to Learn About our Wildlife Neighbors.” Led by Sally Naser of CR Wildlife Cams and supported by Oblong Land Conservancy and the Dover Plains Library, this event will provide foundational knowledge and hands-on experience with using trail cameras to explore and better understand wildlife.
Workshop Details:
10:30 AM – Presentation @ Dover Plains Library (1797 Route 22 Wingdale, New York 12594)
This presentation will introduce participants to the world of trail cameras, guiding them through the basics of a trail cam setup and exploring the benefits of and what they can learn from having trail cameras on their property.
12 PM – Field Session @ Oblong Land Conservancy Slocum-Mostachetti Preserve (Directions: https://maps.app.goo.gl/fv81gTpc1sx61ipx5 )
Following the presentation, take a short drive (2 minutes) to Oblong Land Conservancy’s Slocum-Mostachetti Preserve, where attendees will get to explore the preserve while learning how to read the landscape for signs of wildlife and how to choose an optimal location for setting up a trail camera. Participants will also be given a full trail camera demonstration and get hands-on experience with setting up and troubleshooting cameras.
*Please note: The field session will require participants to hike around 1 mile over uneven terrain. Sturdy, closed-toed shoes (hiking boots or sneakers) are recommended.
