Alternative Solutions For Cleaning The River

General Electric has proposed a number of approaches for cleaning PCBs from the river. Their solutions are based on old technologies and are lacking in imagination.

On Wednesday, January 19, the Housatonic River Initiative (HRI) will be hosting a presentation on alternative technologies available for the cleanup of PCBs from the Housatonic River. The presentation will be held at the Lenox Community Center and will begin at 7:00pm.

Chris Young, CEO of Biotech Restorations will be presenting solutions involving cutting edge bioremediation. BioTech Restorations (BTR) and GeoSolve, Inc.® have successfully bio-remediated three properties to unrestricted use in California using their Factor. BTR Factor is a California EPA approved bio-remedial technology. (http://www.geosolve-inc.com/biotech.html)

Micheal Hodges, CEO of Genesis Fluid Solutions will be presenting his companies new technology. Genesis Rapid Dewatering System (RDS) removes sediments and contaminants from all types of waterways quickly, less expensively, and on a smaller footprint (http://www.genesisfluidsolutions.com)

Everyone is welcome. Please come and hear about these options.

We at BEAT have been expressing our feelings and opinions about this process and about how we feel the cleanup should proceed on our blog.

UPDATE: The meeting was very informative. BEAT videotaped the meeting and has posted the video on this website.

  1. Thanks, Carol. There are so many new technologies out there. This meeting is mostly HRI’s doing. BEAT is a co-sponsor. It should be interesting.

  2. Three cheers for B.E.A.T.’s resourcefulness in researching PCB-cleaning methods that use the latest technology and are more effective than those proposed by GE!
