Status of HWA and EHS in VT and how populations are predicted to change with climate change

January 18, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Tuesday, January 18th @ 12:00-1:00 p.m.

The invasive pests, hemlock woolly adelgid and elongate hemlock scale are increasing their range in the Northeast, stressing this keystone species. Forest health specialists with Vermont’s Departments of Forests, Parks and Recreation, Jim Esden and Savannah Ferreira, will provide a brief history of each pest, their life history, mode of damage, delineation, and control efforts in Vermont.  They will also cover the ecological importance of hemlock, predisposing factors for hemlock decline, current HWA population surveys in Vermont, and the projected distribution of HWA in a warming climate in the Northeast.

Hosted by the Vermont Urban and Community Forestry Program.
