Geology Hike with Expert Mark Brandriss at Hoosac Range, North Adams

December 3, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Join Berkshire Natural Resources Council (BNRC) and BEAT for a hike that will take us through the geologic remnants of a Himalayan-scale mountain range formed in western New England during a massive tectonic collision nearly 500 million years ago.

Mark Brandriss, a senior lecturer emeritus in geosciences at Smith College, will lead us through a modern landscape (BNRC’s Hoosac Range) shaped by the geologic consequences of that long-ago event, and we’ll see evidence of glaciers that scoured the landscape beneath a kilometer-thick sheet of ice as recently as 14,000 years ago.

This hike will take place at BNRC’s
Hoosac Range reserve and will span approximately 2.5 miles roundtrip. Please RSVP to chood@bnrc.org.
