Follow the Forest Volunteer Training

July 18, 2023 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Join Berkshire Natural Resources Council for this online event with Julia Rogers, Senior Land Protection Manager at the Housatonic Valley Association (HVA). Julia will discuss the background and importance of the Follow the Forest initiative and how the public can participate in the project via community science.

Follow the Forest (FTF) is an initiative spearheaded by HVA in collaboration with many conservation partners throughout the region. The mission of FTF is to protect and connect forests and promote the safe passage of wildlife from the Hudson Valley to Canada. Volunteers play an essential role in this project by conducting wildlife linkage assessments and improving knowledge of local wildlife corridors.

After the training, participants will be eligible to participate in Follow the Forest wildlife linkage assessments. A typical assessment takes between 15 minutes and 30 minutes, depending on the complexity of the linkage (it can be much faster when a volunteer is super familiar with a linkage). The commitment is whatever a volunteer wants to make of it. You could go out once, and assess one linkage, or take the exercise and run with it – assessing multiple linkages. In other words, the level of commitment is very flexible.
