ACTION ALERT Tell Gov. Baker: Sign Climate Bill
SUPPORT MA CLIMATE BILL
Contact Gov. Baker today and tell him to sign the Climate Bill released on Sunday! Governor Baker has until Wednesday, Jan. 6th to sign this bill.
We need your help to ensure that Governor Baker passes a comprehensive climate bill. Last night, after years of advocacy from groups and local advocates, the climate conference committee released a comprehensive climate bill (S.2995).
Can you be a part of our effort by calling and emailing the Governor, and voicing your support on social media? URGENT.
While this is just a step in the ongoing sprint towards ensuring that our communities are protected from the worst effects of climate change, this legislation provides an important climate toolkit for our state and moves us forward in very important ways:
- Writes environmental justice into Massachusetts law and provides new tools and protections for effected neighborhoods.
- Creates a first-time greenhouse gas emissions standard for municipal lighting plants and imposes a five-year moratorium on biomass (*Though this isn’t the end of the fight against the Palmer Renewable biomass plant near Springfield – see below).
- Allows for a local option “net-zero stretch energy code” and adds 4 energy efficiency seats to the Board of Building Regulations & Standards.
These advances have resulted from the tireless work of local advocates. We are so close to getting this win, but we cannot stop now!
