DEP Enforcement Actions In The Berkshires

BCC, with CET's help, takes 7th Place in Recyclemania's Nationwide Paper Recycling contest.

CET recycling customers set office paper recycling record

The Center for Ecological Technology (CET) announced that the businesses it serves recycled a record amount of office paper in 2007.  According to CET, over 160 businesses in Berkshire County recycled nearly 1,000,000 pounds of paper, producing significant environmental benefits.  Recycling this paper saved more than 9,700 trees, 2,000,000 kilowatts of electricity, 3,000,000 gallons of water and avoided 29,000 pounds of air pollution.

“As we celebrate Earth Day this year, we want to recognize our business customers for their commitment to the environment and the positive impact they are having,” said Jamie Cahillane, Director of CET Recycling Services.  “Sometimes people wonder if by doing their small part they will really be able to make a difference.  By totaling the results from all of our recycling customers, we demonstrate the significant benefits from their collective efforts,” he said.

All types and sizes of businesses have decided to recycle, from American Speedy, a small printing company, to Berkshire Community College, Berkshire Bank and North Adams Hospital, some of the largest businesses in the area.

“We recycle our paper because it is one of the simplest steps we can take to help the environment and reduce our impact on the Earth,” said Matt Masiero of Guido’s Fresh Marketplace.  “Recycling also makes good business sense – our customers and employees want to know that we are doing it,” he said.

For more information on recycling, contact Jamie Cahillane at 413-445-4556 ext. 14 or jamiec@cetonline.org.

CET is a non-profit energy and resource conservation organization that has served western Massachusetts since 1976.  CET is supported in part by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.  CET is an equal opportunity service provider.
