From EPA document: \u201cThe property was used for the disposal of waste oils and solvents from General Electric Company (GE) as early as the 1950s and possibly later. The one and one-half acre disposal area occupies the northern section of what was at the time an approximate 12.5 acre residential lot.\u201d \u00a0The site was \u201cremediated\u201d in 1994, but is still pumping toxic water from the ground. The Rose Disposal Pit Superfund Site is located northwest of Balance Rock Road, just south of Balance Rock State Park. PCBs and volitle chemicals have contaminated the groundwater as deep as 80 feet below the surface.
