Through education, outreach, and our developing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebeatnews.org\/BeatTeam\/community-chest\/\"><strong>Community Chest program<\/strong><\/a>, we also work to help residents overcome barriers that can prevent them from accessing available energy-saving upgrades.<\/p>\n\n<p>Our work focuses on increasing access to these programs among environmental justice communities, renters, landlords, low- and moderate-income households, and residents who may face language or other barriers to participation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"fish-page\">\n<div class=\"fish-yellow-callout\"><div class=\"fish-yellow-title\">WHAT WE DO<\/div><\/div>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Community Education<\/strong>\n<ul>BEAT provides workshops, presentations, and educational materials that help residents understand:\n<li>How Mass Save works\n<li>Who qualifies for available programs\n<li>What happens during a Home Energy Assessment\n<li>Available rebates and incentives\n<li>Additional programs such as Fuel Assistance (LIHEAP), Weatherization Assistance, and financing options\n<li>Common obstacles that can prevent projects from moving forward\n<\/ul>\n<li><strong>Mass Save Toolkit<\/strong>\n<p>BEAT&#8217;s Mass Save Toolkit was developed to guide residents through the process from initial Home Energy Assessment to completed upgrades; it is available in English and Spanish and is designed to make the process easier to understand and navigate.<\/p>\n<ul>The toolkit explains:\n<li>How to get started\n<li>What to expect at each step\n<li>How to interpret recommendations from contractors\n<li>Where to find additional assistance\n<li>What to do when projects encounter unexpected barriers<\/ul>\n<li><strong>Community Outreach<\/strong><\/li>\n<p>We work with local organizations, housing advocates, and community groups to connect residents with energy-saving opportunities. Through workshops, community events, partner organizations, and one-on-one conversations, we help ensure more Berkshire County residents can benefit from available programs.<p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"fish-page\">\n<div class=\"fish-yellow-callout\"><div class=\"fish-yellow-title\">Common Barriers to Energy Improvements<\/div><\/div>\n<p>Mass Save often provides free or discounted energy-efficiency upgrades, but contractors sometimes cannot begin work until other repairs are completed first. The challenge is that those repairs are often not covered by existing programs, and these barriers can prevent otherwise eligible households from receiving energy-saving improvements.<p>\n<ul>Common examples include:\n<li>Knob-and-tube wiring removal\n<li>Vermiculite or asbestos remediation\n<li>Moisture and mold issues\n<li>Roof leaks\n<li>Structural repairs\n<li>Air sealing obstacles\n<li>Accessibility issues in attics and basements\n<li>Permit-related issues that prevent work from moving forward<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"fish-page\">\n<div class=\"fish-yellow-callout\"><div class=\"fish-yellow-title\">Community Chest<\/div><\/div>\n<p>To help address these challenges, BEAT is developing the Community Chest program.<\/p>\n\n<p>The Community Chest is designed to provide targeted financial assistance for repairs that stand between a household and recommended energy-efficiency upgrades.
