You can even submit the forms online.\u00a0 NHESP has produced a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mass.gov\/eea\/agencies\/dfg\/dfw\/natural-heritage\/species-information-and-conservation\/report-rare-species\/preview-the-vprs-reporting-system.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tutorial<\/a> for accessing, completing, and submitting their online forms.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">The Massachusetts Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program offers the following guidance on its website:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>The NHESP strongly recommends that landowner permission be obtained prior to collecting certification documentation. \u00a0It is the sole responsibility of an individual providing vernal pool certification information to ensure that all activities associated with gathering said information comply with the law.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Photos and audio recordings of vernal pool species<\/h3>\n<p>Here are some <a title=\"Vernal Pool Species\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thebeatnews.org\/BeatTeam\/vernal-pool-species\/\">photos and audio recordings<\/a> of some of the species mentioned in the above video.<\/p>\n<h3>Official guidelines and forms<\/h3>\n<p>The Massachusetts Natural Heritage And Endangered Species Program is the agency responsible for certifying vernal pools.\u00a0 Here is a link to their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mass.gov\/info-details\/vernal-pool-certification\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Guidelines for the Certification of Vernal Pool Habitat<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>How to find on-line maps of certified and potential vernal pools<\/h3>\n<p>To find the Mass GIS map of Certified and Potential Vernal Pool locations in Massachusetts, go to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mass.gov\/anf\/research-and-tech\/it-serv-and-support\/application-serv\/office-of-geographic-information-massgis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MassGIS website<\/a> , and click on &#8220;MassMapper&#8221;, the MassGIS mapping tool.<\/p>\n<p>A map of Massachusetts will appear. At the top, there is a tool bar saying enter your location. It may be easiest to enter either a street address or just the name of a town. From there you can zoom in or out to find your exact location.<\/p>\n<p>On the right side of the screen, you can select different layers. These are fun to experiment with, but for now, let&#8217;s stay focused on vernal pools. Open the &#8220;Images&#8221; folder to reveal its subfolders. \u00a0Choose one of either of the following two base layer image types.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>USGS Topographic Maps<\/li>\n<li>Orthophotos<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can view only one of these map types at a time, (topographic map or ortho photo) not both. You can turn them on and off by checking the box in the Active Data Layer section. If you have both layers checked (turned on) the one that is higher up in the list will show.<\/p>\n<p>To find the Certified Vernal Pools and Potential Vernal Pools layers, look in the list on the
