This is a good example of why these tiny, intermittent brooks need protection under the Wetlands Protection Act &#8211; otherwise developers are in for a nasty surprise.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td colspan=\"4\" height=\"439\">\n<h2 align=\"center\">History of This Project<\/h2>\n<p>1964: Tramway Authority unveils plans for $5.5 million tramway on the east side of Mount Greylock. Project includes tram, chair lifts, 11 miles of ski trails, an &#8220;international shopping center&#8221; and an amusement park. Mount Greylock Protective Association files suit.<\/p>\n<p>1966: The Mount Greylock Protective Association wins legal challenge, and the Tramway Authority is abolished by the Legislature.<\/p>\n<p>1967: North Berkshire Area Redevelopment Authority issues plan for recreational development at Mount Greylock. A golf course and hotel planned on Glen lands. The facility is never developed.<\/p>\n<p>1973: ELCO Resort Development Inc. buys family farms and begins construction on Greylock Glen Resort. Project includes 350-room convention center, a golf course, an alpine ski area and 740 condominiums.<\/p>\n<p>1974: With roads constructed, golf course nearly completed and the convention center construction under way, the developer runs out of money, and the project is abandoned.<\/p>\n<p>1980: MGM Grand Hotels expresses interest in Glen property if casino gambling is legalized in Massachusetts. The Berkshire County referendum on gambling loses.<\/p>\n<p>1985: Greylock Glen concept plan distributed. Plan includes 40-acre lake and health facility. Legislature authorizes $8.5 million for developer.<\/p>\n<p>1987: Developer selected for project. The $260 million plan includes alpine ski area and 1,275 condominiums.<\/p>\n<p>1988: Greylock Glen plan curtailed.<\/p>\n<p>1998-2000: The Greylock Center Project and its environmental impact report are finalized.<\/p>\n<p>2001: The project is abandoned by acting Gov. Jane M. Swift.<\/p>\n<p>2004: State finalizes amended master plan for Greylock Glen. Town of Adams and Mass Audubon Society collaborate on proposal.<\/p>\n<p>April 18, 2006: MA Department of Conservation and Recreation Designates the Town of Adams Provisional Developer of Greylock Glen Outdoor Recreation and Environmental Education Center<\/p>\n<p>November 2006: Town of Adams announces Provisional Designated Developer Agreement.<\/p>\n<p>December 2006 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iberkshires.com\/columnist.php?colm_id=12&amp;story_id=21734\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"no follow\">article<\/a> in iBerkshires.com<\/p>\n<p>2007-2009: Predevelopment process scheduled to begin.<\/p>\n<p>2009-2024: Development of Phases I to III of Greylock Glen slated to be completed.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Information from the Town of Adams Community Development and the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is Greylock Glen?
