BEAT’s River Cleanups are again underway. \u00a0Our cleanup crews have already been out twice this year. \u00a0This year’s season actually began with the early May (May 2) cleanup of a roadway. \u00a0Volunteers spread out along Hubbard Ave in Pittsfield to clean trash from what was a very well littered area. \u00a0Members of the Pittsfield High School Environmental Club\u00a0and BJ’s Wholesale Club in Dalton\u00a0sent volunteers to help out. \u00a0And thank you to Sandy Leonard who organized the cleanup!<\/p>\n

May 16 was our first river cleanup of the year. \u00a0The cleanup was a joint effort of BEAT and the Housatonic Valley Association. \u00a0Six teams of volunteers, one in canoes, hauled trash from the East Branch of the river, from Peck’s Brook along Pecks Road, from the Linden Street area, and from the area around Wahconah Park. \u00a0 A very big thank you to Pine Cone Hill for providing a barbecue lunch for our hungry volunteers after the cleanup, and to Panera’s in Pittsfield for providing the snacks that got us started at the beginning of the day. And thank you to the City of Pittsfield for once again agreeing to pick up the mountains of trash our volunteers piled up along the river.<\/p>\n

Join us for our next river cleanup, scheduled for August 8, 9am at Fred Garner Park in Pittsfield<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
