SUMMARY:How to Grow a Better Bird Feeder
DESCRIPTION:Bird populations are declining at an alarming rate due to habitat loss\, climate change\, and pesticides. Fortunately\, there are simple actions you can take to restore critical bird habitat in your yards and gardens. In this talk\, Desirée will share her research on the importance of native plants to food webs\, why insects matter for bird conservation\, and the practical steps you can take to support bird habitat throughout the year. \nDesirée L. Narango is a conservation scientist at the Vermont Center for EcoStudies. Her research program focuses on understanding how global change impacts bird and insect populations\, and identifying conservation solutions in human-dominated habitats including residential yards and urban green spaces. Desirée has a Ph.D. in Entomology and Wildlife Ecology from the University of Delaware. \n\n\nSign Up for Zoom\n\nDATE: Thursday\, April 16 \nTIME: 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM \nLOCATION: Online via Zoom

SUMMARY:Building Better Soil: A Three-Part Soil Health Intensive
DESCRIPTION:Join the Northeast Organic Farming Situation\, Massachusetts Chapter\, for a 3 part series exploring the living world beneath our feet! \nHealthy soil is the foundation of productive farms and gardens. In this three-part Soil Health Intensive\, participants will explore the living world beneath our feet and learn practical strategies for building resilient\, fertile soil. Together we’ll uncover the foundational principles that support thriving growing spaces while examining the physical\, chemical\, and biological pillars of soil health. \nEach workshop will focus on one of these core soil properties and introduce practical tools\, observations\, and management strategies that growers can apply in their own farms\, gardens\, and landscapes. \nThe series will take place at Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner\, MA. While attending all three sessions provides the most complete learning experience\, participants are welcome to attend one\, two\, or all three workshops throughout the season. Please see individual event pages for details. \nThis educational series is supported by the USDA Transition to Organic Partnership Program (TOPP)\, which helps farmers explore soil-building practices and provides resources for those interested in transitioning to organic production. \nLearn more and register at this link: https://www.nofamass.org/series/building-better-soil-a-three-part-soil-health-intensive/ \nDATE: Friday\, April 17 | Friday\, May 29 | Friday\, June 26\nTIME: 10:00am – 4:00pm\nLOCATION: Mount Wachusett Community College\, 444 Green Street\, Gardner\, MA 01440

SUMMARY:Opening Reception - How Shall We Live? Berkshire Youth Artists Explore Their Relationship with the Earth in the Time of Climate Change
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition is part of the How Shall We Live? Climate Art Show\, a Berkshire-wide program organized by Living the Change — Berkshires that invites students to explore climate change through art and reflection. \nIn this show\, Berkshire County high school students explore their relationship with the Earth through visual art and reflection. Responding to questions such as: \n• What does nature provide?         \n• What matters most?\n• What are the earth’s needs?\n• What is resilience?\n• Where do you find guidance and inspiration? \nStudents created artworks expressing their thoughts\, emotions\, fears\, and hope. \nAlong with the artwork\, students also prepared short artist statements\, many of which are powerful and deeply moving. Together\, the artworks and writings offer a window into how young people are experiencing this moment in time—revealing both the uncertainty they face and their resilience\, creativity\, and care for the natural world. \nAttend the opening reception to celebrate these remarkable young artists and the conversations their work inspires. \nThis event is organized in collaboration with The Clark Art Institute\, Living the Change Berkshires\, and Cooler Communities. The show will travel to Pittsfield City Hall (including a festive opening during First Friday Art Walk in May) and Dewey Hall in Sheffield from June 12 through June 20. \nThis show is made possible through generous support from the Feigenbaum Foundation\, Lee Bank\, and Greylock Federal Credit Union. \nDATE: Saturday\, April 18\nTIME: 2:30pm – 5:00pm\nLOCATION: Clark Art Institute\, Hunter Studio\, Lunder Center\, 225 South St\, Williamstown\, MA 01267
