SUMMARY:Spring Ephemeral Botany Walk
DESCRIPTION:Join Women on the Land for an educational wildflower walk! Early spring is an exciting time\, and the changing of the seasons is often marked by the emergence of spring ephemeral wildflowers. These plants have a short window of time in which they bloom\, often appearing after the melting of snow but before trees leaf out. Spring ephemerals are especially diverse in rich hardwood forests\, which are common throughout Berkshire County. Women on the Land will be joined by Peter Grima\, DCR Service Forester and botanist\, to explore the wonder of these short-lived blooms at Field Farm\, a mix of fields and forests overlying limestone bedrock. You will learn about the ecology\, identification\, and beauty of these plants that\, if you aren’t there at the right time\, you’ll miss them until next year! \nRegistrants should come prepared for potentially wet/muddy trail conditions. The walk will cover 2-3 miles on existing trails over more or less level terrain. Optional items include a hand lens\, binoculars\, and wildflower field guide. \nRegister at this link: https://tinyurl.com/SpringEphemeralWalk. \nDATE: Saturday\, April 25 \nTIME: 1:00pm – 3:00pm \nLOCATION: Field Farm Reservation\, Williamstown\, MA

SUMMARY:Joint Hike: Berkshire Natural Resources Council and Osher Lifelong Learning Institute
DESCRIPTION:Join the BNRC and OLLI at BCC for this spring loop hike at Mahanna Cobble. This outing is rated moderate to difficult with both up and downhill stretches. The hike will be around 3 miles. Registration opens April 6 at 9am on OLLI’s website. \nMahanna Cobble is the northern anchor of The High Road\, a trail which will eventually become a series of connected trails that will run the length of Berkshire County. The trail begins in the Bosquet Mountain parking lot. Beginning with a steep climb\, it winds through the eastern side of Lenox Mountain to the top of the cobble. In April\, spring wildflowers will be blooming along the way\, an added treat on this beautifully constructed trail. A bench honoring founding BNRC Executive Director\, George Wislocki and the typical boulders of the Berkshires five cobbles\, offer places to rest at the cobble while enjoying the unbroken view to the south. This trail is moderate to difficult due to the elevation gain. Please consider this before signing up for the hike. \nHiking poles are strongly recommended\, and good hiking shoes are essential. \nIf we need to cancel the hike due to rain\, we will notify participants by email by 7:00 AM the day of the hike. \nRegister and learn more at this link: https://berkshireolli.org/event-6613888 \nDATE: Wednesday\, April 22\nTIME: 9:30am – 11:30am\nLOCATION: Mahanna Cobble\, Pittsfield. Park at Bousquet Mountain at 101 Dan Fox Dr\, Pittsfield\, MA 01201. Parking at West Mountain Road is not available.
