SUMMARY:A Conversation with the authors of “Tending Your Forest: A Guide to Ecological Forest Stewardship”
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an engaging discussion centered on Tending Your Forest: A Guide to Ecological Forest Stewardship in the Eastern and Central United States\, an accessible and science-based guide for landowners and woodland stewards. This program will feature the book’s authors Paul Catanzaro and Anthony D’Amato and introduce the core concepts of ecological forest stewardship outlined in the book\, including how forests grow and change over time\, how management can support both ecological health and landowner goals\, and how stewardship decisions play out on the ground. The evening will also highlight a real-world case study that brings these principles to life\, illustrating how thoughtful\, values-driven management can enhance forest resilience\, wildlife habitat\, and long-term sustainability. \nFollowing the presentation\, enjoy a conversation with the authors\, moderated by VLT forester Caitlin Cusack and Vermont Coverts Executive Director Lisa Sausville. Together\, they will explore practical lessons from the book\, reflect on local stewardship experiences\, and discuss how landowners can apply these ideas to their own woods: whether actively managing or simply deepening their understanding of the forests they care for. This event is ideal for forest landowners\, conservation practitioners\, and anyone interested in the future of working and conserved forests in Vermont and beyond. \n\nJune 22 @ 6:00 pm – 7:15 pm – Register online to receive the Zoom link for this virtual event.

SUMMARY:Bringing Climate Action Home: Practical Cost Effective Measures to Save Energy and Save Money
DESCRIPTION:350Mass Berkshire Climate Action\, is presenting Bringing Climate Action Home\, on April 7\, 2026\, at Wander\, 34 Depot St. Suite 101\, Pittsfield\, MA. Doors open at 5:30 to provide time for attendees to meet with and learn more about participating community organizations\, speakers begin at 6:00. This event is free and open to the public. \nAbout Bring Climate Action Home: \nThis program will provide valuable resources for anyone considering home renovations\, new construction\, and upgrading to energy efficient electrical appliances. It will include information for homeowners\, landlords\, and renters. \nWendy Brown\, AIA\, CPHD\, Owner/Architect at Terra Design-Build will address critical energy efficient design issues for new and existing homes\, Mass Save\, and how climate disruption impacts us locally. \nJoe Carry\, Decumanus Green Design-Build\, will offer sustainable building insight based on his local home building experience which includes net zero design/construction. \nAmanda Parker\, Green Energy Consumers Alliance\, will discuss the adoption of   residential battery storage\, window heat pumps\, plug-in balcony solar\, and more with a focus on the needs of renters and low-income households. In addition Amanda will outline current available financial incentives including rebates for implementing energy efficient measures. \nAbout 350Mass Berkshires Climate Action: \nOur volunteer members work together to impact environmental degradation and the climate crisis at the local and state level. Because we recognize that these issues impact everyone\, we develop  mutually supportive relationships with groups throughout the county.  \nIn recent years 350MA Berkshires Climate Action has supported local efforts to convert Pittsfield’s polluting ‘Peaker Plants’ to clean energy\, ensure that new school buildings are designed sustainably for the long term\, and has worked on passage of statewide legislation supporting climate and social justice issues as well as clean affordable energy. We welcome new members! \nFor more information visit: 350maberkshires.org or email: berkshires@350mass.org \nDATE: Tuesday\, April 7\nTIME: 5:30pm\nLOCATION: Wander\, 34 Depot St\, Suite 101\, Pittsfield\, MA 01201

SUMMARY:Forest Carbon and Multi-Use Forest Management — Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, February 16th @ noon and/or 7:00 p.m. \nThe influence of active forest management on forest carbon is little known for mature oak forests. This webinar will provide an overview of concepts related to forest carbon sequestration and storage in the context of multiple-use forestry. These are concepts that forest managers and woodland owners should consider when including carbon as an objective in management. Further\, as a specific example from southern New England\, three study areas each with six forest management practices were established in Connecticut in the early 1980s: uncut forest preserves\, silvicultural clearcutting\, shelterwood with final overstory removal\, multi-aged crop tree\, diameter limit\, and high-grading. This study found that active management practices can provide valuable forest products while maintaining or increasing carbon sequestration. Management also provides the opportunity to create climate resilient forests with enhanced wildlife habitat. Presented by Drs. Joseph Orefice (Yale University) and Jeffrey Ward (Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station). \nNote that webinars are live at noon and 7PM\, for an hour each\, but the meeting space is reserved from noon until 8PM. Your registration allows participation in either or both the noon and 7PM webinar\, and from any computer. \nREGISTER HERE
