SUMMARY:Opening Reception - How Shall We Live? Berkshire Youth Artists Explore Their Relationship with the Earth in the Time of Climate Change
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition is part of the How Shall We Live? Climate Art Show\, a Berkshire-wide program organized by Living the Change — Berkshires that invites students to explore climate change through art and reflection. \nIn this show\, Berkshire County high school students explore their relationship with the Earth through visual art and reflection. Responding to questions such as: \n• What does nature provide?         \n• What matters most?\n• What are the earth’s needs?\n• What is resilience?\n• Where do you find guidance and inspiration? \nStudents created artworks expressing their thoughts\, emotions\, fears\, and hope. \nAlong with the artwork\, students also prepared short artist statements\, many of which are powerful and deeply moving. Together\, the artworks and writings offer a window into how young people are experiencing this moment in time—revealing both the uncertainty they face and their resilience\, creativity\, and care for the natural world. \nAttend the opening reception to celebrate these remarkable young artists and the conversations their work inspires. \nThis event is organized in collaboration with The Clark Art Institute\, Living the Change Berkshires\, and Cooler Communities. The show will travel to Pittsfield City Hall (including a festive opening during First Friday Art Walk in May) and Dewey Hall in Sheffield from June 12 through June 20. \nThis show is made possible through generous support from the Feigenbaum Foundation\, Lee Bank\, and Greylock Federal Credit Union. \nDATE: Saturday\, April 18\nTIME: 2:30pm – 5:00pm\nLOCATION: Clark Art Institute\, Hunter Studio\, Lunder Center\, 225 South St\, Williamstown\, MA 01267

SUMMARY:10 x 10 Festival: Winter Tree Identification Walk
DESCRIPTION:Do you know how to tell trees apart during winter? Join BEAT for a free winter tree identification walk at Pittsfield’s Springside Park and Hebert Arboretum. \nWhile identifying trees without leaves may seem daunting\, winter is actually an excellent time to learn. Without foliage\, flowers\, or fruit\, participants will discover how to recognize trees and shrubs year-round by closely examining often-overlooked features such as buds\, twigs\, bark\, and overall tree structure. Guided by BEAT naturalist and tree enthusiast Chelsey Simmons\, this walk will focus on common trees found in the New England landscape. \nThe walk will be stop-and-go and will take place entirely outdoors. Please wear sturdy shoes and dress in layers. No prior experience or knowledge is required\, and all are welcome; however\, participation is limited to 10 people. \nRSVP is required to reserve your spot and receive meeting location details. Email chelsey@thebeatnews.org to register. \nDATE: Saturday\, February 14 (Rain Date: Sunday\, February 15) \nTIME: 10:00 AM to Noon \nLOCATION: Springside Park\, 874 North St\, Pittsfield\, MA 01201 \nThis walk is part of the 10×10 Upstreet Arts Festival\, a winter arts festival located in Pittsfield’s Upstreet Cultural District in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts\, organized by the City of Pittsfield and Barrington Stage Company.

SUMMARY:Premiere: "Canary in a Gold Mine"
DESCRIPTION:Friday & Saturday\, February 11 & 12 @ 7:30 p.m. | Sunday\, February 13 @ 3:00 p.m. \nPiti Theatre Company\, a touring theater company based in Shelburne Falls\, has addressed health and environmental health issues consistently over the years through theater. Now\, they are about to premiere a new show called “Canary in a Gold Mine.” \nLocked down during COVID and desperate to make theatre\, Piti Theatre’s Jonathan Mirin turns the camera on . . . himself\, telling the story of the mysterious symptoms his life and production partner Godeliève began experiencing a decade ago. Increasingly unable to leave the house and take care of their new baby\, the couple contends with the growing likelihood that her illness is environmental – and inescapable. Godeliève‘s severe neurological symptoms are triggered by exposure to the wireless radiation that the rest of society is passionately embracing to connect devices and upload cat videos. As her electro-hypersensitivity (EHS)\, (a.k.a. “microwave sickness.”) worsened\, Mirin found himself compelled to become a public health advocate\, activist & petitioner in a landmark legal case against the FCC. \nClick here to buy tickets for this Online premiere. \nTo learn more about Piti Theater Compnay and “Canary in a Gold Mine\,” click here.
