The Herbert J. Esther M. Atkinson Conservation Fellowship and the Lovejoy
Conservation Fellowship
The New England Wild Flower Society (NEWFS) is a leader in regional plant
conservation activities. The New England Plant Conservation Program
(NEPCoP), the Plant Conservation Volunteer (PCV) Corps, and the Invasive
Plant Atlas of New England (IPANE) programs utilize professional and citizen
volunteers to perform a variety of plant conservation activities throughout
New England. The 2007 Fellows will be involved in all three programs in a
variety of ways, from coordinating volunteers and entering data to
conducting botanical surveys, management projects, and other field actions.
Description:
The Fellows will assist in all aspects of administering the conservation
programs of NEWFS, including data retrieval from the heritage programs, data
entry, conducting training programs, obtaining landowner permission, and
sending out volunteer assignments. Additionally, the Fellows will assist in
the planning and implementation of restoration and management activities,
invasive species initiatives, general floristic surveys and PCV field trips
to botanically interesting locations throughout the region. NEWFS employs
two fellows each year.
Skills:
Candidates should have some familiarity with the flora of New England,
ecological processes and studies, excellent speaking and writing skills,
good phone skills, a willingness to call landowners, and a sense of humor.
Fellows must respect and maintain the confidentiality of rare species
locations. Additionally some long days in difficult situations (hot, buggy,
and wet) are required.
Bottom line:
Fellowships are full-time, six month positions. Practicum/Internship
credits are available.
Starting date: flexible, as early as March 1, but no later than June 1
Stipend: $240.00/week and housing is provided

3) REAL ESTATE DEED & PLAN INTERNSHIP, SVT
Sudbury Valley Trustees, Sudbury, MA
Position Responsibilities:
Conduct deed and plan research necessary to complete in-house documentation
for all of Sudbury Valley Trustees¹ properties. Systematically review
in-house property files. Make notes of deeds, easements, plans and other
documents that are missing. Conduct research at corresponding registries to
acquire copies of all documentation that is needed. Enter documentation
identification and information into SVT¹s property database.
Qualifications:
Experience with deed and plan research at Massachusetts Registries of Deeds.
General knowledge of real estate transactions.
Good organizational skills and attention to details.
Research to be conducted at Middlesex South, Middlesex North and Worcester
Registries (~70% of the research will be at the Middlesex South Registry in
Cambridge).
Time Frame: Spring Semester 2007, 8 hours/week (14 weeks).
We can work out a schedule that suits our mutual needs.
Compensation: Stipend of $1,200 plus reimbursement for mileage.
The position may qualify for work study credits.
This position offers students additional experience in researching legal
land titles at the Registry of Deeds and specific experience in the details
of tracking and documenting land conservation real estate transactions.

4) MEMBERSHIP COORDINATOR, MOUNT GRACE LCT, ATHOL
Mount Grace Land Conservation Trust is seeking a full-time Membership
Coordinator responsible for managing Mount Grace¹s membership program,
including membership acquisition plans, the membership database,
communications, media relations, and events. The Membership Coordinator
plans and implements membership tasks; is supported by the Development
Committee, and is supervised by the Director of Donor Relations.
Qualifications: commitment to land conservation; two or more years¹
membership, annual giving or development program experience; strong
database experience; computer proficiency, particularly Access and Quark (or
their equivalents); excellent written, graphic, and verbal communication
skills; attention to detail; sense of humor, and considerate friendly
manner.
Mount Grace is a regional, non-profit land trust that has been working with

5) ASS'T TO ADVOCACY DIRECTOR, MASS AUDUBON
Location: Beacon Hill & Lincoln, MA
We are seeking a highly organized individual to manage the daily operations
of the Advocacy Department as an Assistant to the Director of Public Policy
& Government Relations. Major responsibilities include performing office
management and administrative duties at the Legislative Affairs Office in
Beacon Hill and Advocacy Office in Lincoln. Serve as a contact for internal
and external associations. Prepare state and federal lobbyist disclosures.
Analyze/track budget and make purchases within funding limitations.
Coordinate domestic & international travel. Track contractor billings,
reconcile problems and approve payments. Event planning for Legislative
luncheons, staff retreats and office meetings. Serve as website liaison for
department.
Qualifications: Bachelors Degree. 2-4 years of related experience preferred.
Excellent writing, computer, and verbal communication skills. Ability to
work cooperatively and independently. Familiarity with environmental issues
and interest in Massachusetts state government preferred.

6) ADMINISTRATIVE ASS'T TO NORWELL CPC
Administrative Assistant to the Norwell Community Preservation Committee
(CPC)
Duties include:
* Attend two evening meetings per month (typically Thursdays); recording and
distributing minutes.
* Contact and arrange professional services such as land appraisals,
engineering studies, and surveys when necessary.
* Write and/or prepare grant applications and oversee grant management
should grants be awarded.
* Act as a liaison to Town Hall departments as necessary.
* Support the CPC in gathering all necessary information on project
applications.
Qualifications:
* High School graduate, Bachelor¹s Degree preferred.
* Must be able to sufficiently use MS Office software (Word, Excel,
PowerPoint).
* Must be able to communicate effectively with the Committee as well as all
others contacted in the course of work: project applicants, professional
service contractors, Town Hall employees.
* Interest in the Community Preservation Act and/or specific knowledge and
education in affordable housing, open space and/or historical resources a
plus.
The Assistant will need to work from home with his/her own computer. The job
is expected to average approximately 7 hours per week, payable at an hourly
rate of $14.46 - $18.05.

7) COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR, HARWICH CONSERVATION TRUST
Harwich Conservation Trust (HCT) seeks a Communications Coordinator to
assist with its ambitious membership outreach, volunteer coordination, and
fundraising efforts. Founded in 1988 by citizen volunteers concerned with
development threats to sensitive natural resources, HCT has since preserved
over 317 acres. HCT headquarters are located in South Harwich on Cape Cod.
In 2005, HCT launched a five-year strategic plan with a goal of becoming a
land conservation leader through its enhanced program areas of land
protection, land stewardship, fundraising and educational outreach. HCT
attracted 137 new members in 2006 (49.3% increase). Full-time or part-time

22) NHESP ENDANGERED SPECIES REVIEW BIOLOGIST
The Natural Heritage & Endangered Species Program (NHESP) of the
Massachusetts Division of Fisheries & Wildlife in Westborough , MA , is
recruiting for an ³Endangered Species Review Biologist². The Endangered
Species Review Biologist is responsible for conducting environmental impact
reviews of a variety of projects under the authority of the Massachusetts
Endangered Species Act (MESA) and the implementing regulations as well as
under the rare wildlife habitat provisions of the Wetlands Protection Act
regulations.
Duties include: (1) Provide guidance to project proponents and their
consultants and attorneys on the legal requirements of MESA and on
requirements for obtaining a Conservation & Management Permit and negotiate

10) DEVELOPMENT & MAJOR GIFTS COORDINATOR, ACE
Alternatives for Community & Environment (ACE) seeks a full-time Development
and Major Gifts Coordinator. Based in Roxbury, ACE is a non-profit
environmental justice organization that builds the power of lower income
communities and communities of color in New England to achieve environmental
justice. We believe that everyone has the right to a healthy environment and
to be decision makers in issues affecting our communities. ACE organizes
residents, provides legal/technical support to community groups, develops
youth leadership, and coordinates campaigns on critical environmental
justice issues.
The Development and Major Gifts Coordinator will spearhead ACE¹s efforts to
raise funds from individual donors and institutional funders (foundations,
government, and corporations). Major responsibilities include building ACE¹s
major donor base, coordinating fundraising events, providing training and
support to staff, Board, and volunteers to fundraise, and writing grant
proposals. The Coordinator will report to the Executive Director and work
closely with the Membership and Communications Coordinator as part of ACE¹s

11) STATE WILDLIFE CONSERVATION POLICY SPECIALIST, NWF
National Wildlife Federation, America¹s conservation organization passionate
about protecting wildlife for our children¹s future, is seeking a dynamic
and dedicated worker to serve as Policy Specialist for State Wildlife
Conservation. Working closely with NWF¹s state affiliates, this person will
be responsible for:

12) MASS. OCEAN COALITION MANAGER, BOSTON
Massachusetts is poised to become the first state in the nation to mandate
the development and implementation of comprehensive ocean planning and
management, or ocean zoning, to protect state ocean waters and promote
ecologically sustainable development. Recent proposals for liquefied
natural gas terminals, sand and gravel mining, desalinization plants, gas
pipelines, telecommunication cables, and wind and tidal energy facilities
have raised numerous concerns among local, state, and federal agencies and
the general public about how to best manage the diversity of uses and the
impacts of this intensified development pressure on the marine ecosystem. In
2007, the Massachusetts legislature will again consider legislation that
would mandate comprehensive area-based management.
Basic Function: The Massachusetts Ocean Coalition Manager will plan, execute
and manage a campaign to raise public awareness and support for
comprehensive area-based management in Massachusetts. The Manager reports
to the New England Regional Director of the Ocean Conservancy and will be
supervised by a steering committee consisting of representatives from The
Ocean Conservancy, Conservation Law Foundation, and Mass Audubon. The main
focus of the position is the development of a core constituency in the
Commonwealth of Massachusetts actively supportive of comprehensive,
area-based management.
Qualifications: A minimum of 3-5 years experience in Massachusetts community organizing,
public policy, or other related environmental advocacy. A mix of campaign
management and state natural resource policy experience and education is
ideal. Knowledge of and familiarity with current Massachusetts¹
conservation issues and organizations in general, and state and federal
legislative and regulatory agencies are highly desirable. Excellent writing
and communication skills and the ability to clearly translate scientific,
technical, and policy issues to the lay public and the media is required. A
demonstrated commitment to marine conservation in the public interest is a
plus.
