The Massachusetts SubCouncil of the Housatonic River Natural Resource Trustees (MA SubCouncil) has released the first round (Round 1) funding solicitation for the Massachusetts Housatonic River Watershed Restoration Program. The Round 1 solicitation provides a means to disburse funds for the implementation of restoration projects from approximately $7.75 million received as part of the General Electric/Housatonic River Natural Resource Damage Assessment and Restoration (NRDAR) case.

Massachusetts Executive Office of Environmental Affairs Secretary Stephen R. Pritchard noted, “This restoration effort represents an exciting opportunity for state and federal Trustees to work together with the affected communities in identifying projects that benefit not only the public uses within the Housatonic River Watershed, but at the same time protect and improve wildlife habitat conditions as well.”

The Round 1 funding solicitation materials, including a Request for Responses (RFR) and a Request for Ideas (RFI), are available online through the Commonwealth’s Procurement Access & Solicitation System (Comm-PASS [http://www.comm-pass.com/]). Applicants having difficulty obtaining required materials electronically through Comm-PASS may seek technical assistance from the Comm-PASS "Help Desk" by calling 1-800-MA-STATE. Hard copies of application materials will be available at the Lenox Library and several public libraries in the Housatonic River watershed in Massachusetts.

The MA SubCouncil will hold an Applicant Conference for the Round 1 solicitation on:

Monday, January 23, 2006, 5:30 – 10:00 PM
Berkshire Community College, Main Campus, Room K111
1350 West Street, Pittsfield, Massachusetts

Written comments and/or questions regarding the Round 1 solicitation must be submitted on or before February 6, 2006. Responses to the Round 1 solicitation must be received on or before March 21, 2006.
