| On June 2, 1999 the Berkshire Kick-Off Classic Soccer Tournament, a community-supported soccer tournament, announced plans to improve the soccer fields on the campus of Berkshire Community College. The group pledged $25,000 for the construction of lights and a scoreboard and added “In conjunction with legislative funds, and the Kick-Off Classic donation, this facility will be a treasure to soccer enthusiasts throughout Pittsfield.” The construction of a pressbox was soon added to the project. |

At this time, the athletic fields of Berkshire Community College along West Street in Pittsfield included four soccer fields, a field house, and a swimming pool. Nearby there were a campus pond, a certified vernal pool, and a small stream.The project was an ideal partnership that involved the soccer group, the college, and community members, and could easily be implemented without harm to the nearby wetlands. Environmental faculty at the college, who had for years used the vernal pool as an instructional site for students, supported the project, although they did remind college administrators of environmental safeguards that would need to be implemented during construction.The base map is available at a Commonwealth of Massachusetts web site (MassGIS).
