Sign the Petition to Gov. Baker on Clean Energy and Climate Change with specific requests on efficiency, clean energy, the tariff, permitting restrictions, protecting Article 97 lands and more. (contact info below)

Tell Governor Baker not to gamble with electric ratepayers’ money so that a multi-billion dollar corporation can profit – no electric rate tariff to support new fracked gas infrastructure. (contact info below)

Call upon Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs Matthew Beaton to restore funding for the energy storage study, and to require the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection to fully implement the Global Warming Solutions Act. (contact info below)

Tell the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to institute a moratorium on new fracked gas infrastructure including pipelines and compressor stations until they have done a cumulative impacts analysis of the environmental effects of the build out of this infrastructure – including greenhouse gas emissions. (You can leave a comment on-line using one of the docket numbers for one of the pipelines threatening our region. See contact info below)

Ask your state legislators to:

  1. Oppose the release of Article 97 land from its protection.  To release protected land from that state protection requires a 2/3 majority of both houses of state government.  Usually the request comes from the Senator and Representative from where the land is located.  Please ask your Senator and Representative to oppose the release of any Article 97 land for building fracked gas pipelines.
  2. Oppose any tariffs to support fossil fuel development.  The previous bill that would have backed a tariff on all ratepayers to help fund the pipelines didn’t pass last summer, but other similar efforts may arise soon.  Kinder Morgan representatives stated that, although they don’t need a tariff to fund their pipeline, they would take full advantage of one if the issue came up again.

In Your Town

Find out who your town’s Regional Planning Agency delegate and alternate delegate are. Then speak to those people about why you oppose fracked gas pipelines and support energy efficiency, peak-use reduction, and properly sited renewable energy solutions instead.

In Your Own Home or Business

  1. Contact MassSAVE for a free home energy audit. Find out where you can improve your energy efficiency and what incentive programs and rebates you qualify for.
  2. Talk to a nearby rooftop or small-scale wind energy provider about systems you could use to generate your own clean energy.  If you’re not sure where to find someone, NESEA’s Sustainable Green Pages could be a good place to start.
  3. If your own energy system isn’t an option, consider adding New England Green Start to your utility account.  For pennies more per KWh, you can ensure that the amount of energy you use is purchased by your utility company from clean energy sources.
